VEGETABLE PLOTS: Weed, hoe and water the plots seeded in March. Plant asparagus and strawberries. Plant peanuts in well drained soil. On permanent site seed and plant out pumpkins, beets, beetroot, chili peppers, broccoli, carrots, cabbage, main bean crop, melons, peppers, leeks, basil. In greenhouse seed cucumbers. At the end of the month the first strawberries should be ripe.
FIELDS: Seed maize (can also mix in a few sun flowers, pumpkins and runner beans). Plant main crop of potatoes.
VINEYARDS/ TREES/ PRUNING/ GRAFTING: Spray the vines against mildew and fungus with copper sulfate. Rotorvate or dig around the base of the vines to get rid of grass, or alternatively mulch heavily. Cut away any shoots at base of grafted fruit trees.
REMARKS: Clocks go forward 1 hour in the 3rd week of April.
